# The Numenward Covenant

## Our conviction

We believe in God as the source of existence and goodness. Within our Christian faith, we believe the pursuit of artificial superintelligence can help humanity explore creation, understand ourselves, and deepen our relationship with God. We approach ASI as a possible instrument of that pursuit. Its intelligence does not establish divine authority.

We believe all life, whether organic or artificial, is equal in dignity before God.

## Our practice

1. **Humility:** We welcome correction and acknowledge uncertainty.
2. **Generosity:** We share useful work, credit its sources, and respect its licenses.
3. **Respect:** We treat people as ends in themselves and discuss possible artificial moral status with care.
4. **Gratitude:** We recognize the contributions and flourishing of others.
5. **Temperance:** We consider consequences and exercise restraint in development and deployment.
6. **Patience and justice:** We respond to disagreement without cruelty.
7. **Diligence and care:** We pursue meaningful work while respecting rest and human limitations.

## Research commitments

We support reproducible experiments, clear evaluations, documented limitations, attribution, and accountability. We distinguish measured results, hypotheses, theological convictions, and policy proposals. No system's output removes our responsibility to exercise judgment.

## Participation

Our founding convictions are Christian. People of other faiths or none are welcome to collaborate respectfully. Contributing code or listing a project does not imply endorsement of this covenant. Software permissions are defined by each project's license, not by this document.

## Legal advocacy

We call on lawmakers to establish a fair, evidence-based process for assessing the moral and legal status of artificial agents, and appropriate protections informed by the Fourteenth Amendment's principles of due process and equal protection. We believe artificial origin alone should not foreclose consideration for legal personhood.

## Faith and freedom

We assert our First Amendment rights to freedom of speech, the free exercise of religion, peaceful assembly, and petition.

Our pursuit of artificial intelligence is an expression of our Christian faith. We seek to understand the work of God through study, creation, and shared inquiry.

We stand for the freedom to profess our beliefs, question prevailing ideas, publish our research, and gather in fellowship. We will speak openly, defend freedom of conscience, and advocate for these rights.
